TEC Scholarship Presented To Local Student

Kyle Burgess Presents Certificate to Sara Grace Newman

Sara Grace Newman, an honor graduate of Handley High School, was recently awarded the $2,400 TEC Scholarship to attend Southern Union State Community College (SUSCC), located in Wadley, AL. She plans to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University following completion of her studies at SUSCC.  In high school, Miss Newman was active with the Junior Varsity Academic Team, Mu Alpha Theta, Drama/Theatre, Varsity Academic Team, Randolph County Youth Development Initiative, Girl Scouts, and Anchor Club.  She was a member of the National Honor Society and received an Advanced Diploma as well as several Academic Honors Awards.  She is the daughter of Michelle and Johnathan Newman.

The TEC Scholarship recipient is chosen based on academic achievement and a personal essay, as well as written recommendations from leaders within their community.  The award was presented in memory of J. C. Overton, a Technician in Roanoke who lost his life while serving TEC in 2016.

“The scholarship’s purpose is to encourage young citizens to pursue higher education, establish life goals, and use their success to serve their community. We also hope to make young adults more aware of the positive attributes of their communities and the benefits of returning to their hometowns after college. We are grateful for our customers and are honored to have the opportunity to give back to the communities we serve,” said Vickie Cummings, sales manager at TEC.
