Collins Picking up Speed with Fast Fiber Internet

Jackson, Mississippi (September 21, 2022) - TEC, a leading rural broadband provider, has broken ground on a project to provide Fast Fiber Internet to parts of the Collins community in Covington County. The completed project will expand Fast Fiber Internet availability to more than 23,000 families and businesses in rural Mississippi, allowing access to such services as distance education and telemedicine. TEC was one of 386 competing companies in the November 2020, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) auction, which awarded $9 billion for the provision of broadband internet to unserved and underserved areas throughout the United States. TEC, with the assistance of the FCC, will fund the building and delivery of broadband access to Copiah, Covington, Jasper, Lawrence, Lincoln, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, and Smith counties.

“We are very excited to see TEC expand into Covington County and know how beneficial it will be to our members. With fast fiber internet, we will have better access to many opportunities, including better health care, more educational opportunities, and the chance to enjoy the internet as it was meant to be. With TEC, our daily home and work life can improve drastically with all these benefits. Please join with me in signing up today. Hurry up TEC, we cannot wait!” Jan Collins, VP of Communications

TEC’s goal is to bridge the digital divide by providing a reliable, high-speed internet option that has a lasting, positive impact on the communities it serves. With Fast Fiber Internet from TEC, residents can take advantage of technology that allows for work-from-home opportunities, remote education, appointments with physicians via telemedicine, and video streaming services.

"For nearly a century now, TEC has been dedicated to creating connections for rural customers," says Joey Garner, President and CEO. "In today's world, that commitment means providing these residents and businesses with reliable, fast internet access."

The project covers an estimated 42 miles and connects over 400 residential and business customers to Fast Fiber Internet, providing symmetrical Gigabit speeds and home phone services to parts of the Collins communities. 1-Gig internet connections give the best online experience for streamers, gamers, social media users, and families with multiple users at home.
