High-Speed Internet is now a reality for the Red Rock Community

CHEROKEE, Ala. (June 2, 2021) – TEC, a leading provider of broadband in Alabama, has completed the construction of Fast Fiber Internet to the Red Rock community in Barton. Installations have begun for residential and business customers who will now have access to high-quality internet. Of the $1,020,490 total investment for the project, TEC contributed $663,319, while the remaining $357,171 was provided by the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Fund.

“I want to thank everyone at TEC for making high speed internet available to all of us in the Red Rock, Barton, and Highway 247 area, “stated community member Steve Harrison. “I know that TEC has been working hard over the last 3 or 4 years to make this service available to us …For over 15 years many of us have had to endure either no service, limited dial up service, then cell service, which was slow and expensive, or lastly satellite service which was not dependable. As soon as the new TEC fiber optic service went online, it was like we finally entered the 21st. Century. Also, many of us work from home at times and the need for fast and dependable service is very important for us.”

Fiber optic broadband is a future-proof technology that increases property values and improves quality of life. Dependable fiber internet connections allow for telemedicine, distance learning, and work-from-home options. Additionally, high-speed broadband provides personal entertainment options, such as streaming videos or gaming. TEC’s goal is to minimize the broadband access gap by providing a reliable, high-quality, and affordable internet solution.

He continued, “I can tell you that the first time I sent a work file up by this new service, I did not have to sit around and wait on it to upload! I have even watched a training video and did not have to watch it buffer or stop!! It is great!!”

“TEC is grateful for the opportunity to join in this collaborative effort to connect so many homes and businesses in areas that need it most,” said Joey Garner, TEC Executive Vice President. “We are excited to see the positive impacts this project will bring to Red Rock, and we will continue to identify projects like this to help connect other unserved communities.”

The current project covers over 17 miles and can connect over 200 residential and business customers to Fast Fiber Internet, providing symmetrical Gigabit speeds, home phone, and security services to the Red Rock Community. 1 Gig internet connections give the best online experience for streamers, gamers, social media users, and families with multiple users at home.
