More Fast Fiber Internet Underway for Taylorsville

Jackson, Mississippi (September 13, 2022) - TEC, a leading rural broadband provider, has broken ground on a 64-mile project to provide Fast Fiber Internet to additional parts of the Taylorsville community. The completed endeavor will expand Fast Fiber Internet availability to more than 23,000 families and businesses in rural Mississippi, allowing more dependable access to such services as distance education, remote employment, and telemedicine. TEC was one of 386 competing companies in the November 2020, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) auction, which awarded $9 billion for the provision of broadband internet to unserved and underserved areas throughout the United States. TEC, with the assistance of the FCC, will fund the building and delivery of broadband access to portions of Copiah, Covington, Jasper, Lawrence, Lincoln, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, and Smith counties.

“We are so excited to have TEC in Taylorsville. I know a lot of people in our town are looking forward to it,” states Taylorsville Mayor, Kelly Phipps. “A lot of people are looking forward to being able to stream without having to watch the loading wheel go round and round especially since a lot of people are getting rid of regular TV and just streaming. It’ll also be nice for the college students in town who are taking online courses to further their education.”

TEC’s goal is to bridge the digital divide by providing a reliable, high-speed internet option that has a lasting, positive impact on the communities it serves. With Fast Fiber Internet from TEC, residents can take advantage of technology that allows for work-from-home opportunities, remote education, appointments with physicians via telemedicine, and video streaming services.

"TEC has been dedicated to creating connectivity for our customers for nearly 100 years, and we will not waiver in that commitment," says Joey Garner, President and CEO. "In today's

world, that means equal access to fast, reliable internet for residents and businesses in these rural communities."
