Polkville Gets Faster With TEC High Speed Fiber Upgrade

The Polkville community of Smith County, Mississippi, can now enjoy the benefits of TEC’s new fiber broadband network.Construction is complete, and installs are underway. This project is the first of a seven-phase build-out across central Mississippi, with TEC investing just under ten million dollars in fiber internet infrastructure.

“In this day and age, not being connected to the internet reduces people’s chances of social distancing, having good health, educating their children, finding a job and running a business,” Central District Public Service Commissioner Brent Bailey said. “I commend TEC’s continuous work in connecting our folks in rural Mississippi. Their efforts will result in 18 more miles of fast and dependable internet connections to 300 more homes and businesses. Within the Central District, this project will be an extension of service into southern Scott County.”

Joey Garner “Having access to broadband is a stimulant for growth in rural communities through efficient, modern connections between rural households, schools, business, and health care centers to the world. Dependable fiber internet connections offer improved quality of life. There is now a more crucial need for working, learning, communicating, and having the capability to access essential online services,” said Joey Garner, Executive Vice President of TEC.

"TEC is dedicated to bridging the broadband gap in our state and committed to improving our customers’ lives with increased internet opportunities. We are pleased to connect Polkville residents to our Fast Fiber Internet and thankful for the opportunity to serve our friends and neighbors", continued Garner.
