TEC Awarded Grant Funding to Bring Fast Fiber Internet to Chambers County

Roanoke, Alabama (May 13, 2021) – TEC, a leading rural broadband provider, is a recipient of a grant from the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Fund. This grant will allow access to Gigabit speed internet to Chambers County, creating connectivity to more than 150 households and businesses. The total project investment is $568,460 into broadband infrastructure; $193,221 provided by the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Fund and TEC investing an estimated $375,000.

TEC extends a sincere thank you to Governor Kay Ivey and Kenneth Boswell, Director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, for assisting with these expansions and improvements for our Alabama communities.

“We are honored to receive this award from the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Fund and we very much appreciate the leadership of Governor Ivey and Kenneth Boswell for their leadership on the issue of connectivity,” TEC Executive Vice President, Joey Garner said. “This grant will play a major role in our commitment to improving the communities we serve and bringing more reliable, affordable internet options to rural Alabama. We are excited to begin construction and get more communities connected.”

Dependable fiber internet connections offer improved quality of life through telemedicine, distance learning, and work from home options. Additionally, high-speed broadband provides personal enjoyment, such as streaming videos or gaming. TEC’s goal is to minimize the broadband access gap by providing a reliable, high-quality, and affordable internet solution.

“I want to thank TEC for their tireless efforts on behalf of the citizens of Randolph and Chambers counties,” says State Representative Bob Fincher. “They have been persistent in seeking the grants to improve the internet infrastructure in our area. I am very pleased to learn that they have again obtained funding to add local households and businesses to their expanding coverage. In so doing, TEC is working to improve lives and bring economic development to east-central Alabama.”

The project covers an estimated 9 miles and will connect over 150 residential and business customers to Fast Fiber Internet, providing symmetrical Gigabit speeds and home phone services to these communities.
