Bay Springs, Mississippi (August 31, 2023) – TEC, a leading rural broadband provider, has completed another construction project in Covington County. This project will enable connectivity for more than 430 residential and business customers by expanding access to gigabit-speed internet by an estimated 85 miles. TEC was one of the 386 competitors in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) auction, which awarded $9 billion among broadband companies to extend essential high-speed internet access to unserved and underserved areas. With the FCC's assistance, TEC will provide Fast Fiber Internet to more than 23,000 rural Mississippi residents and businesses in Copiah, Covington, Jasper, Lawrence, Lincoln, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, and Smith counties. As projects progress through their various phases, widespread access to high-speed broadband will increase, accelerating economic growth in these communities.

Dependable fiber internet connection offers improved quality of life through access to telemedicine, remote learning, and work-from-home opportunities. Additionally, high-speed broadband provides personal entertainment, such as gaming or video streaming. TEC’s goal is to minimize the broadband access gap by providing reliable, high-quality, affordable internet solutions to the communities it serves.

"With each completed phase, the rural communities served by TEC enjoy increased convenience and economic opportunity," said Joey Garner, CEO of the company. "As TEC celebrates 100 years, stellar service to our residential and business customers remains our ultimate goal."
