TEC Expanding Fast Fiber Internet Access in Benton County

Erin, Tenn (February 17, 2022) --- TEC, a leading provider of fiber broadband to rural areas of West Tennessee, has broken ground on a project that covers more than 87 miles and will deliver Fast Fiber Internet to the underserved communities of Holladay, Big Sandy, and Camden.

TEC was awarded $2M to increase internet connectivity as part of a $14.9M broadband accessibility grant program initiated by Governor Bill Lee and the Department of Economic and Community Development. TEC will contribute an additional $2.8M for a total investment of $4.8M in the Benton County project.

“If we have learned anything from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is that we have a need for reliable high-speed internet throughout the county,” says Interim Mayor of Benton County, Dr. Randy Shannon. “TEC has proven to be a valued friend to Benton County in helping bring this much needed service to our citizens.”

TEC’s goal is to help bridge the digital divide by providing an affordable, reliable, high-speed internet option that will positively impact the communities it serves. With TEC’s Fast Fiber Internet, residents in these rural areas can take full advantage of technology that has become vital in today's world: Remote employment, digital learning, telemedicine, and streaming video services. A reliable, fast internet connection will also change the economic landscape for Benton County businesses, allowing them to produce goods and provide services more efficiently.

“The need for reliable and affordable high-speed internet has never been more apparent for rural communities. Access to telehealth services, remote learning, and business operations remain critical in helping rural communities,” states TEC’s Executive Vice President Joey Garner. “We are so thrilled to break ground, and we look forward to the immense impact this investment will have on our customers in these communities and beyond.”
