Bay Springs, Mississippi (June 19, 2023) – TEC, a leading rural broadband provider in Mississippi, has broken ground on a project in Jasper County. This undertaking will extend Gigabit-speed internet coverage by an estimated 85 miles, providing connectivity to more than 600 residential and business customers in the most rural and underserved portions of Jasper County. TEC was the recipient of a federal grant from the Community Connect Grant Program, which made this project possible. These funds allow TEC to increase its significant existing investment of broadband infrastructure to portions of Paulding, Rose Hill, and Newton. The grant of $3 million, combined with TEC's investment of over $1.2 million, brings the total financial commitment to an estimated $4.2 million toward expanding high-speed internet in the area.

TEC’s goal is to minimize the broadband access gap by providing a reliable, high-quality, affordable internet solution. This connectivity supports the local economy and offers improved quality of life through telemedicine, remote learning, and work-from-home opportunities. Additionally, high-speed broadband provides personal enjoyment, such as streaming videos or gaming.

"For a century now, TEC's mission has been to foster greater connection within communities," said Joey Garner, the company's CEO. "We are thrilled to be able to continue this mission by initiating this important project in Jasper County."

In recognition of the vital need for broadband in the area, TEC will provide complimentary Fast Fiber Internet service at the DS County Corner Store in Newton for 24 months. The DS Country Corner Store will serve as a public community center equipped with two laptops provided by TEC.
