CHEROKEE, Ala. (June 7, 2021) – TEC, a leading provider of broadband in Alabama, is continuing to build more Fast Fiber Internet in the Red Rock community in Barton. Crews have begun installing fiber optic cable with plans to complete the construction by fall of this year, connecting over 100 residences and businesses.
“Cherokee High School is in a very rural area in Colbert County,” said Pam Worsham, Cherokee High School Principal. “Many of our students live in areas that are underserved by, or are unable to receive internet. The Red Rock Fiber Build will bring our students high-speed internet and allow for connectedness to teachers and their fellow students. This internet access allows our students to receive classroom content that will make them better students today and better adults tomorrow.”
A reliable fiber internet connection offers many benefits other than distance learning. Having access to Fast Fiber Internet from TEC creates the opportunity to participate in things like, telemedicine and work from home options, which contribute greatly to an improved quality of life. Additionally, high-speed broadband provides personal enjoyment, such as streaming videos or gaming.
“There is now a crucial need for having the capability to access essential online services through Fast Fiber Internet,” said Joey Garner, TEC Executive Vice President. “We are so grateful to have the opportunity to expand this project and the positive impact it will have on local schools, businesses and residential customers. Along with many across our service area, this project is playing a huge role in bridging the digital divide that exists in many of our rural communities.”
