TEC To Sunset Cable Television Franchise Agreement In Henry Service Area

Joey Garner Erin, Tennessee– June 22, 2018 - TEC Executive Vice President Joey F. Garner announced today that TEC-owned Peoples CATV, Inc. will sunset its franchise contract agreement as a cable TV provider for the Erin, Henry and Tennessee Ridge areas effective October 1, 2018.

“We appreciate the opportunity to have served Henry since 1983 with traditional cable TV service. Unfortunately, the continual cost increases by networks, broadcasters and other content providers coupled with changing consumer preferences, make it uneconomical for our Henry service area customers to subscribe to traditional cable TV,” said Garner. She continued, “TEC may be sunsetting this traditional video offering, but we will continue to provide the Erin, Henry and Tennessee Ridge communities with video entertainment solutions over our Internet network.”

The new and growing trend of Internet-based video consumption is referred to as “Over-the-Top” (OTT) streaming. TEC already enables popular options including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video and Sling TV over its fiber-based Internet network. “We know that local programming is important and we plan to provide preferred alternatives that are more cost-effective,” added Garner. “We are committed to guiding our customers through this transition and we look forward to bringing our community more entertainment choices as we invest in upgrading and expanding our network.”
